I saw this on that well known auction site 151229299823 advertised as registered in 1965 with a 5 speed box . Can't be right can it?

About as genuine as a 9 bob note.

The 50% approval must have been because someone couldn't be bothered complaining. It isn't 1965 and it isn't a five speed box. Not sure why anyone would bother putting up such a obviously fraudulent posting.

Its not a 5 speed and the bike 'looks' more recent then 1965 but I'm no expert. Any particular reasons to think its a clone?

... and a very odd-looking "C" front and back number plates. Why?

According to the DVLA enquiry site www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk it was first registered on 1st October 2004 but was manufactured in 1965 (with what would be an age related number). My guess is that it's an Indian build imported to the UK and tarted up subsequently. Presumably the DVLA only requires the frame to be that old.

It says 5-speed in the advert but they must be including the neutral as the picture shows a four speed box, an Indian four speed to be precise. It also has an Indian frame, Indian home market petrol tank and later full width hubs.
I suspect that the only thing made in 1965 will have been the Indian registration document that accompanied it to the U.K.
It is hugely over priced when you consider that they were around £2000 brand new a few years ago and more importantly it may just have been stolen from some poor soul in India.

There is always the possibility that the previous owner bought a C reg plate for the bike and the vendor hasn't a clue about Enfields.

But at least somebody has replaced all the engine cover screws for slotted ones... They look very nice.
