History
According to the factory records this GT was dispatched to Comerfords of Thames Ditton in January 1966. It appears to have been unsold for a significant time as it was not registered until March 1968.
I purchased the machine in October 2016. In 2017 the engine was damaged when the rocker assembly seized and the inlet valve touched the piston. The subsequent strip down revealed that substantial work was needed due to the overall condition of the engine internals. Also it became apparent that the crankcase had a number of hitherto unsuspected defects which required attention.
The bike was therefore placed in storage whilst parts required for the rebuild were acquired.
All the parts needed for the rebuild were collected by Autumn 2019, at which time the well known RE specialist Paul Henshaw (Performance Classics) was commissioned to rebuild the engine/gearbox and also undertake other work on the wheels and forks. The work was completed and the bike returned in December 2019. The mileage since then has been nominal. The bike has not been ridden by the owner for over 12 months due to health issues.
The engine/gearbox are almost “as new”. Many new/refurbished parts were used in the rebuild including:
• Genuine GT crankcase (used and in good condition) (original crankcase was retired)
• New engine, gearbox bearings and bushes
• Pushrods and complete rocker assembly (all new)
• Cam cover (refurbished)
• Oil pump (new)
• RM21 Alternator (new)
• Rotor (refurbished and re-magnetised)
• Inlet and exhaust cam followers (new)
• Primary and timing chains (new) plus refurbished chain tensioners
• Stainless steel screws for side covers
• Existing crank was stripped, cleaned and refurbished.
• Big end shells (new -40)
• Cylinder barrel and piston (new – standard bore)
• 4 speed gear cluster and associated parts (used – good condition)
• Replacement used conrod refurbished and dimension checked by engine specialist Modus Engineering
• Cylinder head refurbished, skimmed and rebuilt with new guide liners, valves, springs and all associated parts again by Modus Engineering
• Stainless steel rims and spokes (Central Wheel Components)
• New wheel bearings
• New tyres (front and rear)
• New 12V battery

Some minor “fettling” work is required but otherwise this bike is in good condition and ready to go.

Other information
Reason for sale? Unfortunately I am suffering from progressively worsening health problems and have been forbidden to ride motorcycles by doctors. I need to sell in order to fund treatment. For that reason prospective buyers will have to kick start the bike if they wish to inspect it running during a viewing.
No “test rides” allowed. Buyer is responsible for collection and delivery.
