Right so. I'd assumed he'd replaced it like for like. Because you get halogen 45/45W P45t bulbs which should be brighter than a tungsten filament but draw the same power.

The bulb I have installed is high wattage, like I pointed out, it was not a very good move, I will carry on experimenting, I'll explore led's.
To be fair, I hardly use the headlight anyway, I prefer to use the side lights, these have pretty bright led's fitted and I think they are very effective for daylight running lights.
I regularly commute to work (12 miles each way) but only in dry weather and daylight, so as the nights draw in and the dark mornings arrive, I will lay her up except for nice weekends.
Meanwhile I will continue 'improving' and renovating, next on the list are rear cush rubbers and wheel bearings.
