Well, I've done it.... Bought with my heart and not my brain, my sensible head is screaming at me "what are you doing, you senile old $%&", But this has been over ruled by my mushy head saying , "just look at it, it's lovely, and you can enhance it by doing this, and this, and...… It is not yet in my garage yet, it needs transporting to me in Devon from Melton Mowbray.
Any suggestions for men (or women) with a van?
As I'm new to Enfields, I will be picking the collective's brains for what is to be done, or not!

Good for you! Enjoy. I used the Bike Bus to carry a bike from Cornwall to Berwick upon Tweed. They're based in Scotland but cover the whole country and were very good.

That very much depends on what you want to do with it! Beware of going gung-ho at our hosts' accessory catalogue. Put some miles on it when it's delivered, see what you think, make a note of anything you'd want to improve.

Bear in mind that in its natural state this is no Gold Star beater.

Good advice, yes, I will be using it as a commuter, weather permitting, to give it a good shakedown before altering anything.
I will have to fit a pillion seat so my wife and granddaughter can accompany me, not at the same time, and maybe a high level exhaust? we'll see, I will concentrate on running it for a bit and getting it reliable and serviced up.
I really like how Enfields haven't bowed to fashionable fads and provide entertainment for discerning folks as us.

NO, I really don't want it to be anything like a Goldstar! I used to have one, DBD34 clubman with all the flash bits, it truly was a nightmare, my poor body is still recovering 40 years later, I will not mention reliability because there wasn't any, these abominations are now in their rightful place, hung on a wall, because they DO look stunning. Anyone who wishes to differ must have owned and ridden one for at least 2 years as their only transport.

Rider/passenger comfort and reliability are priorities, then. The more comfortable dual seats tend to be the flatter-based ones like the Sixty-5's or the late 50's/early 60's Redditch pattern.

High level exhausts and pillion passengers are probably not a good mix without some extra heat-shielding, particularly for the pillion passenger's right leg. If going for one of our hosts' h/l systems you might prefer the Woodsman type to the trials type.

Well, I'm not as young as I used to be, so clip-ons and rearsets are a thing of the past I'm afraid, but I haven't lost my grr yet!
I'm sure the reliability factor can be improved, with careful servicing and tweaking things a bit, like fitting electronic ignition, making sure the internals of the fuel tank is properly clean and a decent filter fitted, etc.
As far as comfort, I do quite like a sprung saddle, I'll have to sort out a comfy rear seating arrangement, as there is none fitted at the moment. All suggestions welcome.
I really fancy a high level exhaust, and yes, I do like the woodsman type, maybe fitted with a short silencer, (the quietest possible), of course heat shielding will have to be devised, again all suggestions welcome.

I do have some thoughts about fitting a quickly detachable pillion seat, leaving a carrier behind when not fitted, I'll have to ponder a bit.
