I had an occasion to use the complimentary open face helmet that came with my Pegasus C5 the other day, the first time I've worn an open face since the full face came in. Well I wasn't impressed uncomfortable, noisy, even with ear plugs, and generally not nice. I can put up with the cold air on my face, I never close the visor on my full face. My question is what make would a comfy open face be and what sort of price range?

I'm due to replace my ageing, full face Caberg helmet. I've been searching for all types but I'm seriously considering a Caberg "Uptown Legend" open face. These seem to go for about £125.
I chose my present Caberg because they fit me well and incorporate an inner, flip up, tinted sun visor, which negates the need to wear sunglasses.

Not liking the restricted visibility of earlier full face helmets I always wore an open face helmet until a couple of years ago when I bought a full face for a more powerful motorcycle that I had bought. A year later I dropped the bike at low speed and was so glad that I had. I landed on my side and head and the bar on the helmet across the jaw was quite badly scarred and damaged. If I had been wearing an open face helmet my jaw would have been damaged, possibly quite badly. I now always wear a full face even on my classic bikes and would urge anyone considering buying an open face helmet to consider if they would be better of with the greater protection that a full face provides.

Valsp, That was a point I was considering as a safety issue, I did feel a bit to open wearing this helmet after 50 odd years wearing full face. I might look into a flip front.

I have as yet never found a full face helmet that fits, none will miss my chin when trying to close them. I know a number of other people who have the same problem.

The added safety of a full-face always seems to me to be compromised by the added risk of the sense of isolation that goes with a full face helmet. Personally I prefer the combination of an open face helmet with peak and visor. But I guess with this subject there will be no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’.

If its of any interest I ended up buying a Caborg Duke Legend to replace the helmet I was wearing at the time.
It has 5 star sharp rating and the price was very reasonable.
It has good side visibility and it came with a pin lock and both clear and tinted visors built in.
It has dual homologation P/J which allows you to ride safely with the chin guard open if you wish

When I came back to biking in 2001 and did my CBT trainingI was shown photographs of horrendous face injuries of bikers who were involved in accidents wearing open Face helmets. That was enough for me.Visor type minimum but what's the point unless it's exceptionally hot weather.
