Hello everybody, , I thought I’d make a brief introduction.

I’m Dave, long-time old-car guy but new motorcycle owner. I flirted briefly with riding back about 15 years ago with a Honda CL350. My dad was a rider (including several ‘50s Indian-badged Royal Enfield twins) and so is my brother. Now I’m back to it.

Back around Thanksgiving, I purchased a 2008 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 Chrome ES (what a mouthful), from a fellow named Steve Emerson near Dayton, Ohio. I mention him only because he’s very active in the RE Facebook groups (he may be on here too?) and the name might be familiar to some. Steve is a big RE enthusiast and has embraced the EFI models in a big way, so my ’08 was redundant for him.
I’m into vintage (pre-1960s) machinery, so it was the perfect fit for me, being the freshest machine available built to a 1954ish design. Even though I live in southwest Vermont, it was worth the trip to Ohio because not only was I certain Steve had given his motorcycle the proper care, he had also fitted it with several improvements such as a front disc brake, electronic ignition, and an Amal Concentric carburetor.

Gunpowder, as I’ve dubbed my bike, has been sitting idle since c. 2015. I’m mostly just trying to get her started at this point. She has good compression and kicks over, but won’t fire. I’m also repairing a broken taillamp and left-hand turn signals that click but don’t blink.

Long term, the plan is to pay homage to the ‘30s Bullets and Model G/J’s while retaining the swing arm and telescopic front forks. I want to fit a high pipe, knobby tires, covered shocks, and a freestanding headlamp. I even toyed with adding “coachlined and infilled” details to the chrome wheels, but as of last night am leaning more toward retrofitting black powdercoated wheel rims for the sake of simplicity. To that end—has anyone put the 18-inch rear wheel off a UCE Bullet on an Iron Barrel? I assume my front wheel already is one, since Steve fitted the disc brake and gave me the old twin leading shoe wheel among the boxes of spare parts he included in the sale.

I’m sorry, I’d post photos but it appears that I need to have some kind of external photo host to do so. Ever since Photobucket turned extortionist, I haven’t had one. I will see you around the forum!

Gunpowder - welcome, folk seem pretty helpful here. I am sure that you will soon get your bike running, afteral 1 plug, 1 coil shouldnt be too difficult.....should it:-)
I have recentley bought back a 612 Enfield that I had several years ago been working ot get it ready for the road this comming spring. These bikes are great fun, and a doddle to work on. Good luck.

Welcome to the board, Gunpowder. To post a picture on here, I have copied my reply to Piston Woes on page 2. So you can look there if this doesn`t appear.

Try this: Click on this:https://imgbb.com/ then Start Uploading, in the picture library, click on the small box, top-right, picture will turn blue around the border, click OPEN in lower right of screen, click UPLOAD,takes a few seconds, in Embedded codes, click HTML full linked, scroll cursor over the viewer links, click COPY when it appears, menu will turn amber momentarily. Paste on Hitchcocks board.

I'll add my welcome, Dave.

Sounds like you want to convert your Bullet to a clone of the RE-built Indian Woodsman, our hosts have the parts which will get you something pretty close if you want a high level pipe and separate headlamp.

You'll find an alloy fork top yoke and 50's style headlamp brackets here http://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycle ... 50s-bullet, and the high-level Woodsman exhaust here http://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycle ... -Evolution Using this rather than the trails exhaust will let you run a proper silencer/muffler (and it looks better).

As far as I know the 18" and 19" rear wheels have the same hub and offset, they are simply fitted the other way round. I understand the brake plate is not the same, though. Just swap the wheel over, leave your iron barrel Bullet's existing brake drum and sprocket in place. Not sure black rims look as good, however, you can get a decent chrome-effect in powder-coating if you don't like polishing.

Meanwhile, if this imgbb works here's what I was able to do with my Electra-X, you could come up with something similar.

Just found your picture with your Bullet on the US forum, that's a 19" front wheel, as a check of the tyre - sorry, tire - size will confirm.

Sorry, I should have been clearer: Yes, I currently have chrome 19-inch wheels on my bike. I want black wheels, however, and discovered that UCE wheels (19-inch front/18-inch rear) were available quite cheaply. Alas, if the sprocket is on the wrong side and it can't be run the other way around, I'll have to keep looking. I was just hoping to avoid the poor results often reported from painting chrome.

Hopefully that's a successful photo of my bike. The Indian Woodsman is in the right vein, but about 20 years too new for the look I have in mind. Thanks for the welcome everyone!
