Having restored my 500 Twin and ridden it about a bit, I'm struggling to cure the oil leaks. I was thinking of asking and engineer to have a go. The trouble is I can't seem to find anyone in my area. I live near Matlock (DE4 2DS). I am looking for someone within say a 50 mile radius. Any recommendations would be welcome.

I think you may struggle to find an engineer who will guarantee to cure oil leaks on a bike of this age?. There are some helpful and knowledgeable people on here who can help with advice etc, where are the leaks from?.

I know of them, they did a great job on the re-bore etc. Wasn't aware they would take the bike as it is. I'll contact them to check.

I seem to have misunderstood, did not realise you wanted someone to take the whole machine.
My recommendations is therefore unsuitable unless you take the engine out the frame.

If the leaks are from cyl base or head there was an article in one of the Brit mags (----? mechanics) on curing
those annoying leaks, mine has what you would call a weep, after 2000 miles.
Without knowing which model you have --
cheers

Hi Rodders nice to know of another Enfield fan who lives locally (im in birchover) cant help on the enginers front I'm afraid but i can recommend this sealnt which i used to re seal my base and had gasekt on my Bullet 350 after a recent top end rebuild
http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/ ... ge-sealant
250 miles so far and its not leaked a drop from the head or base gasket, ive had a slight weep from the rocker cover but ive only the paper gasket on there currently till ive done 500 miles and can retorque the head bolts then i will be applying the same sealant to those too.
You dont mention which gaset is leaking but if its the head It might be worth trying bullet whisperser trick and using a thin punch and hitting the copper gasket to widening it slightly in areas you have a leak
hope that helps
