Royal Enfield 500 Bullet 1955

Hi there
I bought a Royal Enfield 500 Bullet from 1955.
The motorcycle was delivered to Denmark in 1955 and has now landed with me.
I have Danish papers. However, not all of them are there for full acceptance in Germany,
required data. There is only "petrol" above the engine, otherwise no
further details. The TÜV would like to see a data sheet. The Royal Enfield Owners Club in the UK
wrote me that there is no such thing for RE.
It is a 500 single cylinder Bullet built in 1955 chassis no JS13314, engine number identical.
25 hp at 5250 RPM. Double Simplex brake in the front wheel. Still with magneto.
Carburettor, Amal Pre monoblock.
Do you have anything in the archive to help me? I'm grateful for any help.

Hi Michiel, this puts me in mind of an unused, unregistered 30 odd year old Ural a guy from Belgium was trying to put on the road. It was impossible for him to get any paperwork for it in his country, so he sent it over here where I got it running, mot'd and then he registered it here in the U.K. Once it had this registration, he was able to take it back to Belgium and register it there. Maybe you could do similar? Regards, Paul.

Michiel, Paul is being too polite to say so but he runs a business specialising in the repair, refurbishment and tuning of all Royal Enfields. His business name is Performance Classics, maybe you could contact him directly about his services? (Hope that's ok Paul?) Also, I was under the impression that once a vehicle was registered in the EU it was legal in all counties? We don't ask for this information on 'obsolete' vehicles here in the UK or is this an example of German one rule for you and another for us? (Discuss!)

I have Danish papers for the motorcycle. Everything complete. But in Denmark (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Holland, Belgium) there is no information about the engine in the papers. But the German authorities want the details.

Well, as this information does not exist you have a problem. What information does a "data sheet" contain that the Germans want to see? If it is a Factory document then I'm afraid there isn't one.

Hang on minute, we're missing the obvious, I hope!
Is not all this information, AS SUPPLIED BY THE FACTORY, available in the owner's instruction manual/handbook? Surely this would count as an official source which even the TÜV might find hard to reject? Why would the factory issue a separate data sheet in anticipation of some requirement 60+ years later when it's all in the handbook??? Naturally our hosts stock them for the pre-'56 as well as the later Bullets.

As supporting documentation you might be able to get a reprint of the road test of the '55 Bullet carried out by one of weekly UK motocrcycling magazines, it also had the factory-supplied data. My father had a copy of "Road Tests Reprinted", I inherited a number of old motorcycle books from him but this one does not seem to survived him.
I hope this helps. I know we complain about our own dear Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, but when it comes to industrial-grade bureaucracy Germany has long been a world leader!

Hi
I bought the manual from HMC.
I'd like the magazine with the driving report.
What do I have to do to get it?

Oops, the handbook does NOT have a data page unlike the BSA manuals, or even my Electra-X handbook from the RE India.

(
Our hosts did post a new item a while ago that they had acquired a huge collection of original RE Redditch factory documents, I would suggest you ask them if there is anything in there which equates to the sort of data sheet the TÜV wants from you.
I think the Road Tests Reprinted book came out in the mid 1970s and is probably now out of print, it was a large format paperback with an orange cover, sadly I cannot remember the exact title or publisher. I hope someone here has a copy and could photocopy the road rest of the 1955 Bullet for you.
