Alan,
I'll have a look when I'm back in the shed, the first G engine is getting a full strip down and will be used in the bike, the last G in the picture will be eventually for selling.

Hi Barry, Allan R recommended I check out your post. I was convinced that I had a valve lifter problem, fool me. The valve lifter appears to be the only thing that is not out of whack. I have placed some photos on my post "valve lifter in name only" but, unlike you I have nothing to compare it to. Could you take a photo of your rockers, the motor in the foreground has its cover off, particularly the pushrod side. I want to see if the arms are approximately level. I am in the process of rebuilding my '48 G and I am loathe to try and start it when there is some question as to the integrity of the mechanicals, (I purchased as a basket case with, supposedly, rebuilt motor, maybe but does not have the clean look of a rebuild internally despite good compression).
Cheers
Tad

Hi Barry,
I worked it out thanks to some help from Hopeless Rider, Valve Stem End Cap AWOL on exhaust valve.
Cheers
