Being of the persuasion that sidecars on motorcycles are abominations (look out! incoming.....!) I suppose that an Enfield with a reverse gear could suit those poor souls who are afflicted with a third wheel on their motorcycle. Other than that, it's as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Happy New Year.

Not India's first, they have been about since the mid 50's and are not at all that uncommon...

The Albion reverse G-box was intended to be used with a hand change and Gate, on the side of the tank...

With the foot change it is possible to engage reverse from first!!! BANG!

The reverse gear box is identifiable by a significant bulge out of the lower rear of the main gear box casting, and was available in 3 or 4 speed plus reverse. As fitted to Pashley trikes and on Berkley cars.

There is a third variant of the reverse Gbox, with a different main casting, which was fitted to Railway Jiggers and small industrial vehicles like mini dump trucks and cement mixers, and the two-stroke Berkley car.

Not that it will probably be much use to any one, but I do have a copy of the Reverse gear box parts listS, if needed...

This is what's needed for the chuuby Harley cruisers. I've seen many HD guys park nose-dowhill against an obstacle and work like hell to extract the bike. The newest Harley trikes all seem to have reverse. My brother had an HD Servi-car 45 trike with reverse, and built a car from it using an Isetta front end and glassfiber body.
