Early this year I taxed my 350 as usual in anticipation of some summer riding when my bike emerges from its winter hibernation from the shed. Unfortunately, owing to some personal circumstances,it became clear that I would be unable to do any riding this year so in the shed it stayed. Over the following months the MOT and insurance expired but I thought I would arrange all that next year when hopefully I could get back on the road. This morning I received a letter from the DVLA stating that according to their big brother 'database' my bike was not insured and I would receive a hefty fine. Now I realise the rules have changed to try to cut down on the number of uninsured vehicles on the road but I would hazard a guess that those vehicles are not taxed either since a tax disc is no longer needed and there is no guarantee even if the vehicle is insured it is for the person driving it. Anyway I have now insured my bike rather than SORN it but it seems a bit odd that you can be fined for riding without insurance or for NOT riding without insurance.
All the best ,John

Now the thing is My SORN bike down the garden in the "Barn" awaiting "Barn Find Status" has all ways been included on my Bike Insurance...(Fully Comp)..This year and may bee before I just noted it says in the small print that Bike has to be "Tax & Insured to be covered by insurance?" so an on the road bike is less of an insurance risk than an off road one down the garden in a shed?? (Sorry BARN)... Good Night all...Dont know if this makes much difference to you "hubb" but ya canna win...

Hi Alan,
thanks for the link but I was already aware of the rules, I just don't like them. I can think of no other laws that presume guilt and will heavily fine you before you have committed an offence. I'm trying to imagine the Court case ....."Well Mr Hubb you stand before the Bench charged of being innocent, you have paid for Road tax without using the road, you have not bought insurance you don't need and you have not been riding without it. How do you plead ?" Insanity Your Honour

The law is an ass, but it is the law and you knew the law, sorry I find you guilty.

Hi John, it is far easier [and probably safer] for the authorities to make 'criminals' out of good, law abiding citizens over petty nonsense like this and rake in huge sums while doing so, than risk going after the real nasty criminal scum that usually gets away with most of the real crimes committed. Regards, Paul.
