i have at the moment a electra x,considering a efi.
have also been offered a bonneville t100 with 280000 miles on the clock.

would appreciate any comment on these prospective purchases

28,000 i'm guessing? Frankly it's not so much the mileage on an engine, it's how it's been looked after thats most important, regardless what the clock says, if it sounds like a bag of nails when running you're looking at a big engine strip and rebuild, assuming it's fit for even that.
I know little about the Triumph but they were popular enough and still are as a commonly seen classic choice.
I'm sure someone will be along with an EFI or T100 to offer more relevant advice but as said, don't get hung up on mileage, listen to the engine and pay heed to what it tells you.
