Hi Guys and HELP !!........Can someone PLEEEEESE tell me / show me how this dammed main stand on my 2004 Bullet '65 is supposed to fit ??.........I know it's oh-so simples and all that but it's doing my Bacon in at the mo....I've had several chats with our good hosts, both at Chadwick End and on-line but each of the springs I have received have not worked properly....I'm beginning to think that my machine has had a different main stand fitted at some time...Any photos showing the set-up would be gratefully received.....I throw myself upon your tender mercys..

Do you mean you are having issues with Hooking up the springs?
I hook the spring top eye onto the stud on the engine plate, then with a Long bladed phillips screw driver, I pass the blade through the lower eye, stand held UP, position tip of screw driver onto the stud on the stand, and simple pull the Screw driver downwards, the spring slides up the blade and over the stud...
Option two: You'll need a handful of washers. To lengthen the spring, clamp tang of spring in vise, bend spring to the R, coils open up, insert a washer into first gap, bend spring over to the L, coils open up, insert washer, continue.
Note; the washers are not very stable in between the coils are tend to drop out as you try and fit the spring, (expletive deleted) you may want to secure the washers in place with a wrap of Duct tape as you progressively insert the washers...

Hi TIM NZ ---- and thanks for that info but I'm already used to that old trick with the washers. My problem is that I can't seem to find anywhere for the springs to hook up to on the exhaust side.....Also, I'm told that there are 2 springs--- one being longer ( and with a plain straight "tail") ???...........Is the Bullet '65 main stand different in any way to the basic Classic Iron barrel one ??.........Any chance of some photos ??

Morning Alan
Yes there is a long Spring on exhaust side. Coil at top plain tail downwards. At bottom hooks to 6mm stand stop bar, at top to inward facing stud located in frame fillet near swinging arm nut. It is 3.5 cm from swinging arm pin centre at 1 o'clock position.
Hope this helps. Mick.

Hi guys and many thanks for that "Owner Input"...LoL !!......PAPASMURF, yes have already seen that illustration both at home on the PC and whilst at Chadwick End recently and it's that which is causing the grief...If you look at the stand for a normal Iron barrelled Classic 500 you'll see exactly the same stand shown....The problem is that it doesn't show that 6mm stand stop bar that both MICK H and the guys at Mr.H refer to....ie }--- there is nowhere to hook the spring lower end on to !!......Oo-err, Mrs.......Incidentally MICK H...Mr.H's lads also mentioned about the position of the R/H upper mounting point exactly as you said......When I bought the bike recently there was only a small, full-length spring on the L/H side which barely kept the stand in the stowed position....It flapped about alarmingly when going over bumps etc.........I have Oxy/Acet. welding and lots of stock steel so if someone can give me a positional dimension for that 6mm stand stop bar I'll get one made and fitted....Meanwhile I have a purpose-made bungie doing the honours.............

In your bottom picture the peg to attach the spring on the stand is visible. I suspect it is getting the right length of spring is the problem.
This may help:-
