Yes, its just like every other ABS equipped bike. The ABS does nothing until you get into deep slip. In an emergency you just hit the controls as hard as you need to, look where you want to go, ignore the ABS cycling and enjoy the shortest stopping distance the road/tyre combination will allow. A different technique to non-ABS bikes where you feed the brakes for fear of locking up, so never reach the highest available, but one I'm used to having had ABS on and off since 1997 (one thing good I would ever say about BMW!).
What you do notice every day is how much better the rear disc is compared to the old drum in terms of positive feel.
In service terms the master cylinder blocks access to the mesh trap thingy, but its only two bolts to hinge it out of the way. When it comes time to change the fluid a Sealy pump will be used, bleeding through ABS modulators can be a pain. Changing pads is just a pin job, less mucking about than getting the spring on and the cam/lever right.

Does the ABS work on both wheels or just the front? (On some of the systems on cheaper, smaller bikes ABS only works on the front brake). I've never yet had to use any form of pump to change the brake fluid in an ABS system on a bike. Like you I've had ABS since the clunky original ABS1 on BMW bricks through to more modern and sophisticated stuff. I can take it or leave it; I don't ride any differently on an ABS equipped bike, so it never cuts in anyway.

On the very rare times I have to brake hard on the K75S and sidecar, (no brakes on sidecar wheel, ABS on the bike) the outfit comes to a halt rapidly in what I can only describe as a lazy S not a straight line.
(A bit worrying for anyone following.)
