If you have a bee allergy this may be of interest.
I took my IB bullet out yesterday wearing my bright yellow patterned helmet and red mesh jacket.
Two blocks from home a bee buzzed around my helmet and stung me on the chin. A bad reaction slowed my vital signs to the point I crashed my bike and blacked out in about two minutes.
Nearby were a team of firefighters who saved my life.

As I look back, I wonder if high-vis gear could be a hazard.
Ironically my helmet's graphics feature two large hornets in a sting position, but one was scrubbed off on the road.

My new gear will be less colorful.
Be safe.

Ha. I put my full-face helmet on after a stop for coffee and a smoke. Two hundred yards down the road a bloody great wasp crawled across the inside of my visor...

I was really cool about it.. opened the visor and he flew off. Always check my helmet now...

Hope you're fully recovered now..

I once (accidentally) rode through a swarm of wasps at speed in an open face helmet. None of them actually stung me but the poison in their splattered bodies made my face go numb for several hours. True that.

Back in 1967 I took my test, and was stung by a bee on the neck pulled in and told examiner just after he had done the emergency stop, he took me back to the centre after only two laps of the block to treat the sting, asked me a couple of Highway Code questions, got a pass and that helped me forget the sting ;-))

Thanks.
Just a broken thumb and some ribs and rash.
The bike will be mechanically okay with US$75 in parts.
Medical bills are another matter...

Hi FELIX,...Your story has prompted a memory}---my daughter is in her mid 30's now but back when she was an 8 year old we took her and a friend to a local garden centre which featured a small zoo and animal display area.........She and her friend went running on in ahead---only to come running back out again with my daughter crying and beating her hands on her head !!---There were some Butterflies, Moths and assorted other "fly-by-nights" attached to her hair and jacket.....Fair coloured hair and a bright yellow child's jacket !!----Apparently they started to congreate (on or about her person, m'lud !! ) just as soon as the girls had entered the show area...
