Well after having the delivery date of the Himalayan put back again I have now cancelled the order. It was supposedly going to be delivered the end of May and now it may be here late Sept. This is only the second time in 41 years riding I have been riding that I have been without a bike. So time to start looking for something. It wouldn't have been so bad if I had been updated by the dealer, but I had to resort to speaking directly with the importer to find anything out.

Waited for a bigger Enfield machine 2yrs too many, brought Jap Crap, great machine, reading about the Himalayan so glad I did, is the bigger road machine going to be a pig in a poke also ?, if it does appear leave it running around for a couple of years before buying, you could have been lucky not spending your money. (Great shame, I would have really liked to own a new R.E)

Being without a bike is just not on, note to self, never sell a bike unless there are at least two more in the garage!

But from the reports I've read, you may have had a lucky escape?

If you're looking for an adventure style bike,,,, can I recommend a Transalp? I bought this one 4 years ago as a cheap winter run around (1,000 euros) it had 60 K odd on it then and it's just tripped over 80 K. It gets a wash and an oil change once a year, and just runs and runs. Very comfortable, excellent handling wet or dry and at least 60mpg.

There are other bikes in my garage of course, but if I'm totally honest, this could well be the only bike I need, it'll do everything.

They've been around a long time now too (mine's 1987) so whatever your budget there'll be a Transalp to fit.

Good luck, and whatever you decide to buy, I hope you're back on two wheels soon, it's the only thing that keeps me sane(ish).

+1 on that. I always have two road legal bikes in the garage. For me there's nothing worse than missing a fine spell of weather or a club trip abroad because I haven't got a bike. NO bike is that good that it warrants waiting so long for and being bikeless; the Himalayan certainly isn't likely to be. I would also second a Transalp as a really useful all-rounder. I had a Deauville, probably the best bike I've owned and not nearly as sluggish as people make out if you thrash it. Of the current new models the smaller Suzuki V-Strom would get my vote. TBH I wish I'd bought one instead of the C5. After a while the novelty of a big single engine characteristic wears off if you can't trust it to ride far. It seems to me that you either get a good one or a lemon. Mine's a citrus fruit I fear. Never again.

According to Siddhartha Lal,

the Himalayan is not being recalled; It’s a Proactive Service Update
