Next Sunday (18th June) is the 47th Beamish Reliability Run for cars, light commercials and motor bikes made before 1960. Starting from The Beamish Industrial Museum the 150 mile route takes in Stanley, Wolsingham (9 am)Hamsterley Forest (9.15) Bowes Museum Barnard Castle (10.00) Langthwaite, Arkengarthdale (10.30) Muker, Swaledale, and over Buttertubs Pass to Hawes and a fabulous lunch stop on the village green Bainbridge. Here are a pub, café, W.I refreshments and of course the opportunity to enjoy all entries close up. Timing here between 11.30 and 1.300 approx.
After lunch the route makes it way to Askrigg and by way of Oxnop Ghyll back to Swaledale and to Tan Hill Pub via Muker, Thwaite and Keld and an observed section on Silver Hill (1.15)(where I marshall!)
From here via Kaber to Brough, Romaldkirk (1.45). There's a check point at Bollihope Quarry (2.15), and on to Stanhope. So to Waskerley (2.30) and on to Burnhope (3.00), Stanley and the finish back at Beamish Museum. PHEW!
I've completed this run a couple of times on my 197 Dot, and it is exhausting BUT as a spectator it is a great day out in the most wonderful countryside and on great roads. I hope that you can join us.
