just read overland to egypt (cheers john ) i found it to be another great book gordon g may,s style of writing is very good and very informative,dare i say i might even get a passport and try this continental travel lark at some point possibly a visit to the diesel rally at hamm maybe 1 day,anyway current reading this week is the story of royal enfield by peter hartley (incidently purchased off gordon at garstang auto jumble,after that it,l be ann bradfords book also purchased from the same source .

Hi Grunda, I agree totally, Gordon's books are really the best, You will really enjoy Anne Bradfords book, I think it is one of my faves, it really takes you into the lives of the people that worked at the factory, fascinating stuff, It makes you realise why this country was once great and now is a shadow of it's former self re work ethics and our manufacturing, or lack of it

I enjoyed Overland to Egypt so much that I bought the book that inspired it, 'A ride in the Sun' by Peggy Iris Thomas. It is the story of Peggy, her Bantam and her dog who all rode across America in 1951! Not read it yet, but it looks good! I'll lend it to you when I've finished Paul. I've done a few continental bike trips, so maybe a few West Riding lads could venture further afield next year Paul??!!

Quite agree; I've just started the Ride in the Sun, then Egypt is next on the list. Then will re-read Overland to India. I would say if anyone sees Gordon at a show buy some of his books. They are inspirational and fun. Should be made compulsory to get people off their ar$&s.

Just yesterday finished 'A ride in the sun' / 'Gasoline Gypsy' By Peggy Thomas.

Absolutely superb, incredibly brave and adventurous lady and Matelot is a charming companion. Incredible the things that little Bantam went through and a marvel she didn't have her rear wheel mangled long before it happened.

Superb book, if you haven't read it I highly recommend it, it's been reprinted for those who don't know and available via Gordons Egypt website. Very much worth the £10.
The truly sad part is the loss of dozens of her photo's when she dropped her undelevoped films, notebook and typewriter off the dock into the gulf of Mexico whilst boarding a ship to America.
