hi all
i have recently bought a new 500 desert storm special no 110 of 200.
love it to bits.
please what is the correct tyre pressure for the front tyre.

i seem to have two options one is 19psi and the other is 29 30 psi
help would be very welcome.

Its just that the handbook that came with the bike seems a bit out of date for my new bike.

The hand book seems to be carrying a misprint from decades ago. Only this morning I picked up the front wheel for my Electra X (ish) shod with a brand new Continental knobbly Tyre and the mechanic used the manufacturers recommended pressure for the tyre of 28PSI. That will vary a bit either way from tyre manufacturer to manufacturer and type of tyre but 19PSI is dangerously low.

All my life I've given tyres 30psi if I didn't know the correct pressure.

You don't have to love it to bits, vibration will do that, but do carry a tube of loctite and some spanners!

Abe, your bike is similar to my LE Despatch - mine is number 9 in the green camo run of 200. The handbook that came with it is dated 2009 and states tyre pressures that relate to tyres available years ago. These used to be tubed tyres. Assuming your bike has the same tyres as mine (Avon Roadriders), the correct pressures as specified by Avon for these tubeless tyres fitted with tubes are 27psi F and 29psi rear. These are the pressures I have settled on, though I have to say that these bikes are fairly tolerant of wide variations in tyre pressure - road racers they are not.

yes after 500 miles i have used threadlock on silencer shield plate,plus on the bolts that hold the stays on the front mudguard on,awaiting next rattle.

but after 55 years of motorcycling this takes me back to where i started,

Even the 2014 Handbook is still saying 20F/30R, possibly for domestic indian tyres and contrariwise to Avon and general practice over here. The Avon USA site here http://www.avonmoto.com/fitment-results (enter RE and then 500 Classic/Chrome in the dropdown box) recommends 27F/29R. The previous Avon page here http://www.avonmoto.com/tech/tire-pressure-guidelines offers guidelines for increasing pressures thus, if 27F/29R the (+2) 29/31 two-up and (+2 again) 31/33 'heavy'. They don't have a 'solo heavy' but being american I'm assuming that solo is for a 200+lb rider.
These pressures are for Avon Roadrider.



The pressures for the Skidmaster as on the B5 are given as 24F/29R
