So having a little time this week, I decided to service my radio. It's a Murphy A72 which is over 75 years old.

Thought it might make an interesting break from motorcycles...

Hello to your radio from mine.... a "Bush"; the logo can just be seen on top. Can't do the fancy stuff like your video, which I enjoyed.
Anyway it's in good working order and I can remember being enthralled by the lighting up of the different wavebands when I used to see it, visiting my grandmother. She usually seemed to have it tuned at "Droitwich"

Whilst we are on other activities, here's a short vid called "Bangstick vs. Dial-up modem"

I think I need to cut down on the calories a little?

Valve radio's wonderful, when I were a lad I had a Barker 88 in my bedroom and a pair of pilots headphones plugged in to the jacks so I could listen without my parents hearing.

I am in wonderment.

Got the long aerial sorted and tonight I am getting London gold on 194m (1548 KHz)

Absolute radio on 247m (1215 KHz)

both in very good quality (for medium wave (AM)

not bad for a 1939 Valve radio with a bloody long bit of wire hanging out the aerial socket!

P.S. also getting many other stations, but they are all talking 'foreign'.

From what I can make out that looks like a lovely place where you live, did you miss by the way at that short range? A shotgun will sort it.
