I was thinking of adding a luggage rack to my new Classic 500, but the RE item is a bit of an ugly affair. Does anyone know of a better item and where I could obtain it. Many thanks

Part No 92701 from our hosts. You can even fit a pillion seat to it if you want.

I used carriers 93040 with the 92502 leather panniers on the C5. It does need the C5's custom pillion seat 597447 (colour options) and a little metalwork done to the frames. I suggest the hole at the front be cut into an open tongue to fit the upper shock absorber mount, the frame arms bent a little and re-drilled to fit the pillion seat bolts (maybe under the seat). The result is actually rather neat.

The C5 pillion seat is removable, if you take the cushion off you're left with a luggage rack. No drilling of mudguards.



In fact if one were to attach the mudguard to the 597447 frame, we could dispense with much of the heavy ironwork of the mudguard stays. And still have a form of lift-up mudguard for wheel access, hinging on the 597447 front mount under the rider's seat. Dunno, maybe not for looks.
