How do these new-fangled helmet cameras work then?
I've seen Scalybacks tremendous & inspiring vids both oh this forum & on Yootoob and really wondered how they actually work?
My PC is Windows10 o/s & most of the cams I've looked at on evilbay only seem to go to Windows7. What gives? (??? )
All the specs mention WiFi but give a range of 30mtrs? Huh?
Am I missing something here?.....and how do they mount onto your helmet?

I can`t help you with you question, others will. What I have seen from them, is anybody using one seems to get involved in a prang or close shave; they seem to attract trouble.

Oh thanks Leon, I'll just wait for that to happen then....

for Wifi, it means that you can have a remote control, usually on your wrist which you tap to start and stop the cam, so it only needs to be local.

My cam (Ghost HD drift ) plugs into the USB port, looks like a disc drive to a mac or PC, and has mp4 movie files which I just copy the lot to a folder on the desktop and go through them later. I have winXP, win10 and mac OSX on my laptop, but I use the mac iMovie program to make the vids.

Most helmet cams come with different methods of attachment i'e. rubber bands around the helmet. The GoPro is the one used by professionals shooting action film which will be viewed on telly, but of course they're expensive. I bought a w*nky £40 ebay Chinese made 'bullet cam' which only films in 720 and is very grainy although OK for Youtube - the sound is useless. I actually bought it for canoe/kayaking and I have to agree that it has been the cause of a lot more spills than if I'm not wearing it! Like Simon I use iMovie or Final Cut on a Mac.

Personally, I don't like helmet cams because of the way the video swings up, down & side to side whenever you move your head - watching it makes me feel seasick!
I prefer mine chest mounted, its an SJcam M10 - cheap Chinese but excellent quality 1080p video although YouTube spoils the quality.

The SJcams come with a waterproof case and GoPro compatible mounts. I have a chest harness that the cam clips into. I've modified the case so that I can run the cam from a USB powerbank in a pocket to give me several hours recording time.
