Dear Chaps, does anyone live near-ish to Marlow in Bucks, and also has two 389 Monobloc float bowl gaskets & two of the main jet block fibre washers? I'm stuck til Tuesday otherwise. I'd come get them & pay. My new purchase is leaking fuel from the aforementioned parts after cleaning the carbs. Thought I might get away with the old ones. TTFN Jack

A pal o'mine turned up two 376 float bowl gaskets & jet block washers. But when fitted, the float bowls leaked like a sieve. So in desperation I fitted both new gaskets to one bowl & it sealed OK. So still short of float bowl gaskets. Any comments about why this should be? I took off the high spots on the bowl cover screw holes.

Floats stuck and not cutting off supply of petrol?

No, floats & needles are OK, it is just the sealing of the float bowl gaskets. One gasket leaks, two gaskets seal.

A very very light smear of red snot or similar on the old float chamber gasket may get you out of trouble until you can buy replacement gaskets

Not an Enfield I'm afraid Mark. 1964 model N15CS. Very much in the style of the Westwood Inters, but with a gearbox which doesn't bite back.

The gaskets are soft, people over tighten the screws, they start leaking so the screws are tightened again, the mazak end plate is now distorted, the answer is a new plate a skim in a lathe or a temporary fix two gaskets, unfortunately petrol eats gasket goo in most forms, it turns to jelly and blocks the jets.

Looking like a temp fix for both carbs with two gaskets for now. Be Tuesday now though.

Second Dennis on this, cover will be warped. New ones aren't that expensive.
