"Universal" components

In my experience "universal" has meant drill 19 holes yourself, use bits from an old meccano set to make it fit. I have yet to buy a "universal" part that fits with no problems.

The idea of 'universal' fitting I thought isn't so much that it will fit every possible application 'out of the box' but can be fitted to most applications with some, normally slight, modification.

Just bought hosts Amal Mk1, 50s exhaust system and continental seat and all fit perfectly with tiny fiddling needed. I avoid Universal like the proverbial. You get what you pay for etc

Leon - Photo not found but - a little dipping in your bucket - you got a low compression con rod like an early Triumph triple?
