Hi there a family member that lives in India has purchased the new re himalayan for me can anyone tell me how I go about importing and registering it in the uk

I believe insurance may be your big hurdle. I wouldn't think the Himalayan will be on any British data base yet, as it is not available over here yet.

That didn't actually come up on my list of things that might be a problem one more to add to the list

My 1999 500 Lightning isn't on the UK Database yet (But the 535 is), but it's still insured. As papasmurf as said. Ask someone who does Insurance for grey imports.
