[center]Well three of us did a nice day for the seaside, and the nearby pie and mash shop, I must admit to felling a bit tired in the afternoon after a double pie and double mash.

Les,

the plan was to get down there in the sunshine yesterday but we were delayed until today. I have never seen pie and mash advertised as tripper food in Swanage, though it might be on some of the pub menus. Bearing in mind Swanage is quite a bit further for the down from London brigade than Herne Bay, it also might not be served in the same style. The fish and chip shop was doing a roaring trade though, and if you wanted dressed cab from the seafood stall I suspect your luck might have been in.

Also, Herne Bay doesn't have any of these!

I think the pier had a narrow gauge steam railway in the 1050s to replace the earlier tram but most of the pier has now gone, Tenterden has steam though I have been to Bodiam while having a ploughman's lunch a couple of times

No Adrian, but nearby shepherdswell has gone over to electric heritage trains...
