I am very puzzled at insurance companies not covering grey imports, because my wife and I have never had any problems at all getting insurance cover for them. Spare parts have never been a problem either, even on a 31 year old grey import Honda Nighthawk we used to have, or a Yamaha Radian.

thanks for replies and papasmurf your right when I had my 1980 Honda cm custom it was rare in a sense that it was imported in 1984 from Germany normally American market ikes any way the only insurer that had the cm in their dropdown list was bennetts I had it insured with them for 3 years and when it was time to insure it again they sent a letter saying they could no longer offer me cover for this bike something to do with underwriters of course just coincidence that they were just bought over by saga I hasd no problems getting parts for it not that it needed a lot anyway

Try
http://www.peterjamesinsurance.co.uk They specialise in classic and obscure bikes. I'm 68 too and found Saga to be a total waste of office space. It fact I got so cross with the stupidity of the 16 year call-centre twat that I wrote a letter of complaint to Roger Ramsden the CEO and I got a Christmas hamper with Thorntons and a bottle of proper bubbly in it - I still didn't insure with them, mind. Peter James did an old MZ and my Bullet fully comp for £130. PS Bennetts are part of Saga which explains why they are so useless.

On the other hand Bennetts insured my Tiger 90 for 60 odd pounds and my 3 years old Suzuki for less than £80. Saga also insure my obscure old Perodua car. I've had no issues or problems with either company. Incidentally the dots after each sentence are full stops!

this is my pate hate.. insurance companies or the AA/RAC.. send you a quote and rely on the fact that most will just pay up no questions asked. I always phone up and 95% of the time get a much better deal. just swapped to the AA for breakdown (I FOOLISHLY SWAPPED TOP THE RAC FOR A YEAR... WHAT TOSSERS THEY WERE!) and was quoted £144.. got it for £120.
