Hi there,
DVLA doesn't accept to provide any information concerning former owners to anyone outside of the UK. Bad luck as I live in Austria.
Does anyone has another idea on how to trace back my bike's history?
I succeeded in finding the last three owners but still have a big gap between May 1960 when it left the factory and 1999.
My Connie was last registered in the UK as "LKE274B".
Any information is welcome. Thank you.
Best regards
Julien

Thought _KE ___B was north west London circa Jan 64- Dec 64..

Do wish they still had the old style log books with all the names hand written and stamped..

Searching Kent, council archives they say...

"Vehicle registration

Records of motor vehicle registrations, 1903-1974, are
catalogued under C/FL

Records of Canterbury City vehicle registrations are held at
Canterbury Cathedral Archives"

Which I got from their PDF index, Kent data assets

this is all stored at The Kent History and Library Centre (KHLC) which opened on 23 April 2012.

1960? the reg would have been between 1 and 999 LKE, LKE nnn x numbers were issued between Aug and Sept 1967 and were in the form of LKE nnn F

It's boring, but check down the list at Kent Reg allocations, click on Catalogue search, and enter C/FL into the FindingNo window and then search, but don't leave the page or the next page screws up and you go to the end of the list and have to start again.

It seems they might have the information though, but you have to send a request or get a friend to go there.

Hope that helps.

Gwilly, are you sure? Bugger!

I not going though all that again! Might explain why I didn't find the B year, but 1960 in kent was 1-999 LKE.

Someone else's turn now.

Thank you for your help. According to the original RE ledgers the bike left the factory in May 1960 to dealers Walton & Coombes of Altrincham. Why it was first registered in April 1964 in Maidstone (Kent County Coucil) is a mystery. My bike still has matching numbers.

I'm sorry SCALY, i expect your right, thought registrations beginning with 3 letters early sixties used the 2nd and 3rd of the 3 letters for area identity..

Lists seem to vary but i do wonder how a machine in Cheshire/Greater Manchester gets registered in Kent???

Dealer swap maybe to sell... Love a good mystery..
