Yesterday on TV5 Monde was this programme, Bienvenue sur le toit du monde - Faut Pas Rêver.
(It will be available on YouTube in the future.)
................................................................................................

Parts of it showed Enfields operating at up to 4000 metres above sea level with no modifications and no problems.
.........................................................................................................

Has anyone any idea why the Enfields are happy at that height with no carburation mods.

Are we talking iron Bullets? I suppose the state of tune is so low that the altitude doesn't bother them enough to be problem.

I am as yet unable to even find a clip of the show with the Enfields in it. They looked newish Enfield's to me.

The current EFI models have their ECUs mapped to over 18,000-ft, well over 5000 metres. They do take them up the Himalayas.

The Indian Army operates Bullets in Kashmir average alt 5,700m

One reason the carburettor models have always been able to do this is probably their relatively low 6.5:1 compression.

Otoh maybe they re-jet or move the needle when they're operating that high.

Jefrs, can you provide a source for those heights please. Especially an AVERAGE of 5700 metres.

It's the Siachen glacier that has an average altitude of 5700m, not Kashmir as a whole.

I was of course referring to Indian Army bikes in Kashmir where they patrol the borders on the Siachin Glacier avg 5700m and rising to over 6100m (20,000-ft), forces are deployed at higher altitudes. Not sure bikes are used quite that high but they are used in the high dessert region there. Strictly speaking the state is Jammu and Kashmir, the latter being a valley famed for woolly pullovers.
