Yes, it's been done, the Factory raced bikes equipped like this in Production Racing (PR) series and sprints and hill climbs in the period 1968-70. The Factory fibreglass tank and side panels were an option and look a bit like a Continental GT. Plenty of pics available in Andrew Stait's book The Mighty Interceptor or at the yahoo Group for Interceptors at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/RE_Interceptor/info

Well make your own version then! There's no need to copy an original bike although there are (to me anyway,) some nice Factory examples in the book (sorry!).

Hi Mark, we have a Series 11 out here with a fiberglass tank fitted. Came from the dealer with it fitted. It was six months old when the current owner bought it and the front mounting bracket looks factory with the bracket coming down under the tank where it sits on rubbers and bolted into the tank. As I said it looks factory

Norm, as I said in my post, the fibreglass tank and matching side panels were a Factory option. There are some sets of the side panels in the Used Parts section on this site if anyone is interested!
