Does anyone out there have a long number plate for seven characters i.e. ABC 123 G for a Series II Interceptor please ? The Royal Enfield parts book only shows a short number plate only suitable for six characters.

I may be wrong, but weren't the standard Enfield plates designed to have a separate number plate attached by the dealer/owner? As in the yankee fashion, where they had a License Plate holder attached atop the original plate. You are quite right though, 7 figures don't fit. Not sure 6 do either. TTFN Jack

Odd idea, my '68(F) Bantam (gone) had a 7-figure plate 3-3-1 as original fitment. Generic plate with a Lucas atop. So they are 'out there'.

Those were used across a number of different bikes in the BSA/Triumph range, my old BSA C15FSS had one. However, these plates take the 564 Lucas rear lamp, not the later (and larger) 679 version. You could try our hosts' 49586 number plate, with a pressed alloy plate with two rows, ie ABC 123G format, bolted onto it. Otherwise, you could perhaps get a good sign writer to do the plate, and they should be able to adjust the with of the second row of characters just enough to get them all on the 49586 plate. It would help a lot of the number was 111, but even one 1 would help a bit!

Are you talking about the front number plate Roddy? I have a similar problem with the shaped Triumph plate on my T90. The original 6 digit number fitted but the re-registered 7 digit number doesn't.

Some Series 2 owners I know have used the smaller "front" number plate letters. Technically this is illegal but none of them have reported problems wiv da law. I will be facing the same problem myself when the DVLA issue me with a new number for my 1970 S2, hopefully soon, and this is what I intend to do. Rebel!

Technically it became illegal to have a pedestrian cutter front numberplate in the UK, I don't know if that applies to 'vintage' machines but they did get removed when it was introduced.

Yes, when the law changed it became optional for bikes produced before the cut off (ha ha!) date. All my bikes that originally had such plates still do.
