Having missed what would have been my first visit to the July meet up, by going on the wrong day (twat), I decided that I was not going to miss August, even though it was very misty and nasty looking at home.

I left and found that the mist hid a gentle but wet amount of rain.

I really was sorry to take the gleaming bike out in the wet, but AS the weather for Besancon (about 30 miles away) indicated dry and warmer, I packed a roll of kitchen towel paper stuff in my backpack, along with the canvas RE bike cover, and my home made display sign.

Having found the place, I pulled up next to three classic cars, and an old Renault van which was the coffee van. By now, I was soaked on the outside, but dry inside. Poor Kevin was wet though, as a light drizzle replaced what was supposed to be just cloudy conditions.

Image

As much as I wanted to, there was no point in trying to dry Kevin off, so I continued by putting my display board up.

Unlike the UK where the majority of people stay at home when wet, more and more vintage vehicles kept turning up. Within a minute or, two, a very nice lady asked if I would like to put my backpack in her car out of the rain, but I explained, it was weighing down the display board.

What was really nice is that Kevin drew a lot of attention, possibly as he was the only 'moto' there and maybe also because eithe rhe, or the Renault coffee van was the oldest vehicle there as well, the rest being 1960's onwards.

The left toolbox had leaked, leaving a couple of Lodge HLN plugs and all that boring but important legal stuff (V5C, insurance, etc) heading toward rust and paper-mache. Luckily, the paper towel roll came out and some of the bits that were still dry, fixed the situation. At least I know that bergen leaks water, GRRRRR!

Oh, yes! Better show a few of the other vehicles as well!

Lovely DS 21, always loved then since I was a boy, I got a Corgi Citroen Safari model of Armond and Micaela Dennis, then (much) later a REAL Citroen BX and CX, the CX in particular was a lovely car to drive, Rolls Royce used their suspension system so that gives you some idea!
Kevin looks regal even in the rain!

At least you and Kevin made the effort to brighten up what looks like a drab day

And a mention in the spiel above the piccie, zut alors. "A noter toutefois la présence d'un sujet de sa gracieuse majesté, venu sur une splendide Royal Enfield de 1959....". loosely translated, "Note, however, the presence of a subject of his gracious majesty , came on a beautiful Royal Enfield 1959.... Great post, nice to see the rain doesn't scare everyone off! Out of curiosity, why do you carry your V5c and other 'important documents' with you? there is no legal requirement to do so. If you were to get stopped the Police will know before they even speak to you wether the bike is taxed/insured/mot'ed.

This is in France and the rules are different to the UK. The law is you have to have them with you, this all applies to UK visitors.

They have little insurance stickers, that you have to stick on your front mudguard.

Luckily, Kevin is only visiting, so that does not apply.
