I've got a picture of that Gilera outfit at the Belgian Historic TT at Gedinne last August:

That looks like it was a lot of fun!
What model is the black RE? I am not so good on the older ones.

Scaly, it looks like a J2 from about 1948-50. This is the Post War twin port version of the pre-War 500cc Model J which was effectively the 500 Bullet of the 1930s. Post War the J2 was a big brother for the G, often used as a sidecar hauler and widely used as a tug for commercial outfits fitted with a Trade or box sidecar. Many were sold to the Milk Marketing Board among others! The post War Bullets took over the sporting role in the range with the 350 also appearing in 1948 although the 500 didn't come along until 1953. Although you see quite a lot of Gs around the J and J2 are much rarer these days.

I'd have liked to have visited that. Must keep an eye on their website. (Sidcup and District MCC isn't it?)

I used to go to Canada Heights back in the late 60's and early 70's with my 410 Husqvarna and 350 Bultaco. I seem to recall it was just old brick (clay) pits by the side of the road where anyone could go to get off road and was especially popular for kids without a license. Looks like it might have changed considerably in the last 50 years. Another similar place was Worms Heath on the 269 near Warlingham which was also old quarry land and very popular with the unlicensed and keen off-roaders. Does anyone know if it's still there or, more likely by now, been turned into a housing estate?

Yes it is Sidcup and District Motorcycle Club I am getting my Swamley's and Siscup's muddled up I think there is a Swanley Club that uses the same site, they are going to try and make it a yearly event, free entry there must have been about 200 bikes there, many classic and vintage models, some trade stands mainly for trials type of stuff, Canada Heights is a large well laid out site for all disciplines of off road riding.
