Totally unrelated to Enfield or motorcycles I have been helping a friend convert a lawnmower engine purchased at a very bargain price off of the internet into a crab pot hauler.
I had to bore out the hole in the pulley from 22mm to 7/8th of an inch to fit the shaft. (I used a rat-tail file, to do it, an also file a slot in the pulley for a woodruff key.)
We had to mod the engine a bit, remove an automatic brake, and fit an on off switch. (No ignition switch fitted.)
Just filled the engine up with oil, put petrol in the tank, determined which was on and which was off by looking at the spark plus tip whilst winding the engine over. Five presses on the petrol primer two pulls on the starter cord jobs a good un.

Les, Afraid no pictures, or they will all want one. The engine is mounted onto a base box which bolts onto the bow of the boat. and the pulley is connected by a V belt to a 66 to one reduction screw driven gear box with the rope pulley attached. "on/off to the drive is a jockey wheel attached to a similar pole to those that operate a table football game.
The engine has not got a throttle but is automatically governed to 4000 rpm which means the rope pulley turns at 60rpm.

It is when he catches one of these, which happen to be my favourite meal. Locally called Crayfish but they are Spiny Lobsters:-

I once fitted a lawnmower engine into my boat, it sank when the bottom had a hole cut in it because I forgot to remove the blades.
