...Used to go round the TWW branch when I was based at Norwood to drag broken down "thumpers" back to Selhurst. The TWW/ Uckfield and Tonbridge branches were always a pleasure as it was like a time warp, especially when pulling several hundred tons of loose couple freight with a class 33 "crompton" in a quarter mile long train. Real rain driving and real guards in brake vans.

I have been to Groombridge in connexion with my work never knew that lane existed, you are much braver than me I think I would have walked over it first

I remember going down the Uckfield branch by thumper as far as Edenbridge to buy BSA unit single spares at OTJ's.



Meanwhile, for apparently lucky eddie, here IS some Crompton action from Dover Western Docks, all gone since the train ferry and the boat trains disappeared :o(
