Christmas day, after dark, trusting Tornado, getting there without incident.

A short film showing clips from Bullet night riding.

(Thanks to Moo for the trip to get the 5 litre can and some fuel for a bike on reserve!)

I saw the grit truck was out as Tornado is painted how does he stand up to road grit, for the ones with some chrome and shiny alloy not so good.

I don't know yet, but I avoid salty roads when damp or wet.

The enamel army colour paint does a damn good job. It's sold as paint for toys and models, but seems to be a decent quality enamel (Excluding older tins that were made in China, they were crap).

Glad that old pre-focus headlamp unit cleaned up OK, what wattage (which wattage?) halogen bulb are you using in it? A.

35W halogen. The charging system works ok with it, and the diagram shows 40W so must be about right for a bullet of that period.

hope the neo is living up to expectations!

The Neolight is fine with a 35W H4 halogen bulb fitted, and it saved me shelling out for a replacement for the Wipac unit with the usual broken bulb holder! The Electra's 3 phase alternator can happliy cope with something more powerful, but in the interests of giving the battery an easier time, I'm sticking with this for now. There is a stange white bloom over the inside of the glass, not enough to stop it doing its job, but I'm curious as to what it might be as well as the best way to clean it off. I suspect a tissue damped with isopropynol and pushed round on the end of a stick will be enough.

Cheers.

Curious to see exactly what it was, I just took the headlamp unit off the bike and had a poke around with a piece of clean kitchen roll and a screwdriver. I was pleased to see it all came off easily without any solvent, leaving the glass pristine, and I was even more pleased to get the kitchen roll out in one piece almost as easily.

Still no idea what it was, and as your parcel arrived in good nick with no signs of damp I'm fairly certain it wasn't condensation, at least not of moisture. All I can think of is the sublimation of ammonium chloride, and I wonder if there is some component of the black coating on the end of the H4 bulbs that evaporates as a solid and condenses on the glass as a very fine white film. As I said, there wasn't enough to stop the unit working properly, but as with my second pint, I do prefer a clean glass! All sorted now, though.

I have used the kitchen towel method with success on various auto lights I have also found that some incandescent bulbs such as stop and tail can build up a covering of this white bloom it cleans off very easily keeping the lights nice and bright
