Hi guys-------- I'm wanting to make a simple wheel balancing device...Has anyone got a scrap Bullet swing arm I might prize out of their hands ??---------Condition not important as some welding will be done, but not accident damage please ??.........Can collect in broad Midlands area or pay up to £10 for courier ( Collect Plus is £9.29 for 5-10 Kg.)

You could just use a pair of axle stands and the spindle from the wheel....

True, but this is to be mounted in the bench vice ---- I have no spare floor space available..

Ha-ha !!----------- nothing wrong with your eyes, is there......I think you know already that its a 1966 BSA B40 Ex-Army DR bike....Awaiting its' turn on the ramp..Army CR gears being changed for civilian std. range....The gap between 3rd and 4th is worse than the Enfield ones !!!

balance my fronts (when i can be bothered) in the forks with front end jacked up & brake backed right off. Never done the rear.

Like Beezabryan, I balance my wheels in situ on the bikes, most of the time in any case, even the racers and it works fine. For the rears on the Enfields, I disconnect the chain, back off the brake adjustment AND mark the sprocket / brake drum assembly position relative to the wheel itself, so if the wheel is removed for some reason other than a puncture or tyre change, I can re fit the wheel and know it is still balanced correctly otherwise you will only have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it right [1 in 3 for Redditch types]. It is surprising how 'out of balance' the sprocket / brake drum assemblies can be at times and they should be included when a rear wheel is balanced 'off the bike'. Regards, Paul.
