Currently, any motorcycle built before 1974 gets a Historic Vehicle tax classification, with an acceptable (free) rate of tax. You still have to fill in a form initially and apply for a tax disc.



My question is, 'what will happen after the issuing of discs stops?'.



Would you still have to inform the DVLA so that you can pay them nothing to have nothing sent out to you, allowing you to display nothing on your bike, or will they just drop the whole thing after you have initially prooved that your vehicle is built before 1974.



Even better, will their computer be able in some cases to work out that a registration or construction date of before 1974 means no tax proceedure, or am I being too hopeful, expecting government software to be able to do something sensible, when it usually does not.



Now, I'm keeping my tax disc holder. Time it had something pleasant inside it. Cut and keep from below YAY!







P.S. what ideas do you have for the redundant paper things? Mine is coasters!

The Government has considered that the Tax Disc is nothing more than a receipt for payment, so they're doing away with the Tax Disc. Mind you. The DVLA will probably give to something to confirm that you've paid, so why not make it look like a Tax Disc? I admit, I'll miss them when they're gone. Since the Tax Disc will no longer be a Legal requirement. I don't see any harm in producing 'fakes' (You can't fake something that doesn't exist) and sticking them in the holder.

It will still have to be either taxed or SORNed. Even if the tax rate is zero, strange but true! Maybe you will have to set up a monthly direct debit for £0 ?

Something else I learned recently, you won't be able to transfer tax when you sell a vehicle. Any FULL months will be credited back to the old keeper and the new keeper will have to pay tax from the 1st of the month so DVLA will gain a months tax on every change of keeper. Grrr!

So no point those adverts having 'taxed till september" then?



I assumed that dvla would only want mot (if applicable) and insurance/sorn for a historic vehicle? why bother with processing no tax?

exactly the same stuff going on out here from the start of this year except that our old bikes are still being issued with a label because they are not on the main database computer which is fantastic because the police have to ring the registration branch if they want any info on club bikes so it gets all too hard for them lol

Scaly, any chance you have a 1963 disc you could post here?
