I had to go Specsavers in the town centre this afternoon to pick up my new glasses but the car park is expensive and a long way from the shop so decided to take my 350 as there is a bike park just round the corner. When I rolled out the bike this morning I found the battery was flat -no problem I thought-I'll charge it up for 3 hours or so and all will be fine.Sadly not,the battery was still dead and would not take a charge. So resigning myself to take the car I took the battery back to my shed when I noticed my cordless drill has a 12volt battery. Could this work? Two spade connectors and some wires later the bike was up and running- Result.
The downside is my £200 glasses are no better than the ones I get from the pound shop.

Both of my 350's and the 500's had an emergency start position for just this eventuality - turn the key one click left instead of right. My Triumph is exactly the same.

...(the rest of above post)...My Triumph is exactly the same and I was riding about for over a year with a knackered battery that would n't charge as the alternator was able to supply more than enough power. I finally replaced the battery a couple of weeks ago.
