I've just spent a frustrating and unsuccessful weekend searching for accommodation on the Isle of Man for TT race week. I can't believe that there is NO accommodation available. I want to go with my daughter for the 4th, 5th and 6th and I found some sailings, but that's all at the moment, Grrrrrrrr. Anyone else having the same problems?

This has been a problem for many years now to stand any chance you have to book early, a lot book the accommodation when they are there the year before.

Hi guys------- yes, it's becoming a right pain to say the least.......You can't blame the Hoteliers etc., they've a living to make after all...The IoM Govmnt. run a system in conjunction with registered home-owners who are willing to let a room , or a whole house called HOMESTAY... That's how I managed to "Get in on the act" in the first place--------------------- Have a read of this and follow the links. Oh, and the very BEST of luck !! >>>>>>>>>>>>> http://www.visitisleofman.com/accommoda ... mestay.xml -------------

Forrest you've left is sooo late! You really need to be booking ferries a year ahead for a sensible choice of crossings and accomodation a year or 18 months ahead. As Dennis says, many book before for the following year before they leave. Maybe try for the Manx or Southern 100? Or better still, the Ulster in August. All the big names and Ireland is a much bigger island to find somewhere to stay.

Had the same trouble when booking for the Classic TT last year! Eventually (after several days of trying) managed to get fixed up with a "Homestay" close to the Grandstand in Douglas. If this year's Classic TT will be anything like last year's, then that's the one to go to without a doubt. Two of us went for the Classic TT week only, rather than the modern Manx Grand Prix that's ran in the second week. If you're into classic bikes (rather than modern plastic crotch-rockets that you can see every day) then this is the one! Thousands of TRUE ENTHUSIASTS from all over the world and absolutely jaw-dropping bikes! And don't think the racing will be slow just because of the Classic tag! Most of the top TT riders will be in action on some very fast bikes, and believe me, they race to win! You'll also see the famous Linsdell racing Bullet in action (it came fourth last year, lapping at over 107mph!). Worth going just for that!

TENT!

This guy and his friend did in 1932. They travelled on an ariel and a travis, had a nice pannier fire on the way, and you learn some odd things about ferries and how the RAC helped out, but it seems they had a very, very good time.

Anyone who is fond of old bikes, history, and TT races, really should read the story on the link above.
