A pal of mine is selling an 04 Bullet 500 electric start in original trim. Nice red and chrome tank, just a few hundred miles on the clock. I am tempted because I want another classic four speed to tweak a bit with a decent exhaust and carb system, plus maybe more café racer bits and pieces. Anyone know what I should make as a fair offer him for the bike, which is in excellent condition.

Prices seem to have dropped here as well Alan what was pulling $6000 a few years ago are now selling for around the $4000 mark and the market place is awash with UCE's for sale which is obviously pushing prices down and the average joe wouldn't know the difference a Cast Iron and a UCE, all they look at is the Royal Enfield on the tank and assume they are all the same

Alan - it is identical to the one on our hosts site that morphed into their café racer

It is also in near as new condition, which makes me think £1000 is a bit low.

Its worth whatever he is prepared to accept and whatever you are willing to pay. If the two views are similar you have your price. If he put it on Ebay it would likely reach between £1000 to £2000 depending on condition, history, location and someone wanting it badly enough. He would also have to take into account selling fees, dealing with tyre-kickers, possible winning bidder not turning up and all that sort of hastle. That alone would move the price downwards a few hundred in your direction. One last point. It's a gamble buying from a pal. What if it turns out to be a pile of problems, what if he feels he has been short changed etc. Friendships fail over trivial things like that.

Thanks Midge that is exactly what I was after. Take the point about a transaction with a pal. I don't sell on ebay as I have found that direct dealing is a lot less hassle and not necessarily means less cash. In the last 3 months I sold a classic Enfield, Venom Clubman and Sunbeam S8 to people I never met but discussed matters with on the phone and email. Vans turned up, bikes left and that was it. Mind you I tend to spend a lot on the bikes so they are well sorted and don't look for ridiculous prices either, preferring an easy transaction. I think I will offer a price somewhere near mid range.

I think you should look at some recent classified adverts. Old Bike Mart and RealClassic are easily available to view online (although a quick view only goes back about 1 or 2 months,) and should give a rough idea. I actually keep about 3 months of back issues of OBM as a reference guide for this type of thing, sad I know! Prices asked are not a guide to prices paid of course but the ones I've seen suggest between £1500-2200. Good luck!

Hello SOFIASPIN---------have just looked at that link you supplied and see what you mean about appearance.......Very nice indeed BUT, it's still a 10 year old machine..AND has been standing around doing nothing for most of the time it would seem...In life nothing has value save that which we put on it, as MIDGE is indicating...As you are the potential buyer and I assume the two of you are going to Haggle a little?? then why not start at £1,000 and be prepared to go up ...maybe to as much as the figures that MARK M is suggesting....Keep us informed, please ??

Has your pal named a price? If not, why not?

Alan R - "10 year old Bullet ??-------no more than £1000"........ but didn't I see a 9-year old one advertised here quite recently (and needing an engine overhaul) for £1500?
