Anyone ever remember seeing a Redditch 350
powered three wheeler in the late sixties?
Am sure I saw several used by meter maidens
on arriving in Toronto in 1970, but was more concerned with just surviving then,, so
details now hazy. But in another context, do
remember seeing brand new crated Triumph TRWs side valves twins tacked high in a surplus store for $999 each which is another
story. Maybe the three wheelers ended up as
golf carts, who knows.

Hi guys--------- GORDON, I have a vague memory of seeing "something" powered by an Enfield engine on one of the Midland Bullet Riders jaunts last year ------- the Railway Cafe' near Tintern Abbey I think it was ??------ Calling Mr LONE WOLF, did you take any photos of that ??

Gordon, yes they existed! Made by Enfield in association with Pashley the bicycle makers (who are still in business!) they were sold in the US and Canada as Indians and called the Patrol Car. Marketed as a competitor to the Harley 3 wheel Servicar, they had a 350 Clipper engine with a 3 speed and reverse gearbox and tank mounted hand change. They had a huge toolbox/carrier on the back and heavyweight Indian Chief forks. Toronto Police used them with a rear mounted passenger seat for the meter maids. One came up for sale recently, it was illustrated on David Blasco's excellent site at http://www.royalenfields.com/ (Go to the site and search back editions for it, there has been more than one for sale but only one Toronto unit.) I have seen one here too at a REOC Rally about 10 years ago. If I'd had the money, I'd have bought it for wierdness value alone!

Thanxs indeed, Mark, for your
research. Am starting to doubt
my memory as to what context I
actually saw them in Toronto now
as had presumed it had been with
parking meters. But by 1970 they
surely would have been worn out.
Soon after moved to an remote
farm house, and would only go
downtown in my '53 Ford V8 at
night, and not have seen them
'cept perhaps as sidewalk snow-
ploughs in a satellite suburb
enroute! Now you have me really
intrigued like 'rosebud' in
Citizen Kane. Wonder if the 3
speed/reverse was Albion too
like my brother's garden tiller
long ago. Will surf Blasco's
site later this evening to
provoke memory better 'cause
I did see them live!

Alan, that's the site and a patrol Car listing. Elsewhere David posted some pics of a Toronto Police version with a side mounted seat on the rear part of the box, a very odd arrangement!
