I got this today from a reputable ebay seller... apparently it was from a Harley Davidson SXT/SS 125 or 250cc, small dents, etc, but in quite solid condition. It has a double outlet tap that I am not accustomed to - would one of these be for the reserve tank? Those SXT bikes were single cylinder 2-strokes so I guess they didn't have twin carbs on... anyone know about these?

Peter,
Almost certainly a reserve. Not an unusual arrangement. One of the taps will likely have a rising tube inside the tank.

Cheers Pete... I thought I'd have to make up some 2-into-1 pipe but it appears that one of the outlets is blocked up
Now, shall I spend a long time getting this filled/primed/painted... or clean it inside and stick it straight on?

Oh, I thought you meant two taps. Not seen one of those before. You need to take it out of the tank to see if there is a reserve facility.

That looks like a vacuum type tap and the blocked hole is where the vacuum pipe would fit, as it is blocked off it is likely that the diaphragm valve has also been removed.

Looks a bit similar to a Chang tap, some of those have twin outlets, one for each side

If you look at this youtube clip it shows a glimpse of the same tap, it looks like the second connector is blocked off on this and not used, seems a strange way to make a tap !!.

Classic Badge Engineering! I remember the AERMACCHI-HARLEY DAVIDSON 350 which was a rather nice 4 stroke single a bit like the Benelli 250 I once owned. Peppy little bikes nothing like their hulking agricultural namesakes.

Thanks for your comments gentlemen - I have tried it on the bike but it just ain't right so it is now up for sale, on a well-known auction site. If I put the word Aermacchi in the listing it might fetch a few bob more?

I have never forgotten what one of those cheeky bloody little upstart Aermacchi's did to my A10 back in the 60's, he passed a group of us on Brit bikes, that was not cricket, so I chased him for 30 miles, we pulled into the hillclimb meeting together, I pulled in the clutch and the A10 stopped dead and this little upstart just sat there ticking away. Never really gotten over that
