Why do we love 'em?
Simple.
Because they're simple.
Because someone like me who is a relative novice to anything other than servicing can learn a lot when things go wrong (thanks to knowledgable peeps on here).
Because the security guard at Halfords told me last week "That's the SICKEST bike on the Old Kent Road!"
Because imagination is the limit in terms of making them into what you want. Not withstanding good taste

Because at 40mph on a slight incline it pulls like the Flying Scotsman and has the panache and speed of Andy Murray on song as it overtakes a lada

I luv mine because, as of this evening's ride to The Raven Bike gathering at Prees Heath, Shropshire I'll now be buying some NEW crankshaft main bearings that I hadn't planned on until this Winter PLUS, as a spin-off I'd best change the cam followers as they've been "ticking" merrily for some time now AND, as my No.2 bike needs an overhauled crank then I might as well do both engines at the same time whilst tooled-up for the job !!!----------BULLET WHISPERER, Paul this is the one we discussed a while ago requiring a steel con-rod to be fitted....PRE 7.30 pm I was a happy bunny.....I've been given the loan of a BSA B40 for the weekend so should be ok for riding...........Ho-hum !!!!!!!Oh yes---- I've just this week authorised a £3,000 spend on a 5"gauge live steam loco as well...........

Hi Alan, a set of mains won't break the bank we get Jap mains out here for abot $80 a set probably about 50 quid in your money but is an annoying job to have to do and not wanting to be a wet blanket but if you don't change the big end as well Murphy's law will have that fail on you another couple of thousand ks down the road. Happens every time

Hi Alan, leg is getting better, today I was able to set the cam timing on a 612 on my hands and knees to see the marks on the timing pinion. Bit hard to get up though
