Does anyone else watch this very American post-apocalyptic Drama series? The premise is that all electrical devices and systems have ceased to work. The writers have cottoned on to the fact that a steam engine would still work, but not that a diesel engine would work provided you could get it started. And that your brain cells wouldn't work.

Guns work. Phew!

But my point is that the militias who run the country would surely have commandeered fleets of Diesel Bullets instead of using horses and buggies to get about.

Hello JOHN R, can't say I've seen that yet, but the thought of the 21st. GRUNDA Volunteer Militia roaming the streets on bikes is a daunting prospect and no mistake !! (He-he )

John, I haven't seen it but it sounds like a great hypotheses upon which to base yet another post apocalypse violent view of anarchic and self centred western civilization. Wow that was impressive, well fo me it was. However how do these militias expect to manufacture new amunition without some form of energy? Yes you can fill shells with powder, but every time you lose a shell you are one step nearer to needing the energy. Even the diesel engined Enfields would need some electickery for riding at night......hmmmm perhaps the head and exhaust pipe just glow white hot and do away with the need for a battery. This is all too much for a simple person like me so I don't think that I shall watch it.

The old acetylene/carbide lamps would work, and have the advantage of not being dependent on engine speed! as any owner of a Bantam could tell you. If electricity has 'failed' doesn't that mean magnetism has failed? in which case the Earth becomes a nice radioactive rock upon which even cockroaches will struggle to live?

I didn't see the program, my television (electrical) has stopped working!

Decent ammo is in fact running short, and muskets are making a return.There are strange amulets in existence which seem to have the property of making your PC work and indeed go online. All may be revealed, if they don't axe the show at the end of the first series as usually happens with these mystery sci-fi dramas. "The Event", anyone?

Havn't seen it myself but I take it an Electo Magnetic Pulse has taken out the electronics, surely the bullet with it's old fashioned points ignition and kickstart would still run as would any electric device not fitted with solid state electronics would still work?

Not necessarily EMP, something more mysterious and unexplained.
