My Bullet 500 passed its MOT today with no issues. That is not the mystery - what is a mystery is it started first kick for the tester. He simply gave it a tentative half hearted prod and it cheerfully burst into life - as they age do Enfields start to behave like normal bikes???

Now I Do Not Want to Tempt Fate and I m Not the Most Mechanical of Men BUT....All the Enfields I Have Owned & Inc My Present TWO Start 1st or 2nd Kick and Why Not...OK the Odd Flooded Time or When they are Bloody Minded take a dozen..But 9 tines out of Ten Wether In daily use or Left a few Month 1st or 2nd Kick Start,,al My Bikes have Had Points,all K/S but a Mix of Mikuni/Micarb & Amal Carbs..."After all Why Own a Bike Thats a Pig to Start?"..I Think a Lot is To do with a Firm Clean Kick. I also don't want to tempt fate as I've had a good run from my Bullet since her last real problem nearly 2 years ago. I am no mechanic but I swear my bike goes through different moods . . . I have now had half a dozen 'Particular' ways to get her to start first kick in the mornings. . . For example: She used to HATE the choke and wouldn't ever start or run with it on (Didn't really ever seem to cause me problems starting) and recently the ONLY way to get her to turn first kick is with the choke (can't be a change in the carb as every other aspect of the engine's performance has not changed a bit). I love my Enfield even though I don't understand her. I think she likes me too

No mystery to me - my 500 Bullet has always been like this. Last Saturday I dragged it from a 5-month winter slumber in the shed. It started second kick. (Last time the bike was run was 19th. November) The battery has not been charged (off the bike) since I fitted it 2 years ago, and the fuel in the tank was purchased 8th. October last. After a quick run round the block accompanied by a bit of spluttering - no doubt from a bit of gum in the carb. - it then settled down to smooth running and a steady reliable tickover. Went for a 89ml.ride the following day - didn't miss a beat. Bike has performed similarly for the whole of my ownership - 8 years.

Always found them the easiest starters. Tickle and kick from just pat TDC and Off they go.

Hi guys----------- I bet those ones' that are "Easy Starters" and reliable runners ( I was VERY tempted to put "Easy Riders"---but I didn't)... are still using standard pistons and settings, and don't take frequent trips down a dual carriageway / Motorway at an "Indicated 70 MPH" ????

Not in my case Alan. I have hi comp and improved cams as well as the big 1 1/8 389 carb.
