No, it's rubbish these days. Used Smoothrite recently on a Constellation frame with some confidence as I've finally learned the technique and it sprayed like water and dribbled everywhere. My mate Pete swears by Plasticote so I'm trying that next. REgards, Mark

Yes, I like Hammerite on some applications, but I have used black smoothrite on various bits of my bike six or seven years ago, mostly to touch up rusty bits of frame and tinware. It looked OK when I did it, but looks awful now.
I've just done a petrol tank in black plasticote and it looks great; slightly orange peel but that is probably more about my spraying technique

Hi guys--------- yes, have to agree with you there...It's def. NOT the same as before.. There's something not quite right about the colour itself...has a sort of Brown under-tone I think ?? Oh, I think I hear a "Donk-Donk" ???

Just happened to have started spraying my spare casquette today with black smoothrite, definitely very watery, runny and semi transparent.

Hi Mark, that Plasticote, is that the stuff you spray on and if you don't like the colour or want to change the colour you just peel it back off. Looks awesome in the vids I have seen.

We've got a product here called PA10 which is a vinyl etch primer that you can get in red, white, grey and black. It dries to a satin finish in about ten minutes and is as hard as the hobs of hades. You wash out the brush in meths which sort of denatures it so its not a thinner. Good stuff though and ideal for holding rust at bay.
