First run out yesterday. Started second kick and ran perfectly with the horrible old stale petrol from last year (so that's one myth dented) Even my hands were toasty with the new heated grips - yes, I know, I'm a wimp ;-)
Actually, the only engine I've ever dealt with that was sensitive to stale fuel was a Honda outboard - just would not run properly til you gave it fresh stuff.

Stale fuel? Did you drain the carb/float bowl last year? Also do you have an inline fuel filter fitted?

Yes, I always drain the carb and the filter's been there since I got the bike. Never had to clean it though.

PeteF,my obvious question is why do you drain the carb?

earl, put an eggcup full of supermarket unleaded fuel into an empty pot-noodle container (outside) and look at it a month later. Also two months later.

Jaffa the reason for draining the carb if the bike is not used is because the petrol evaporates and just leaves the nasty sticky residue.

Hi guys-------- most of which will be in the primary jets, the very ones that are needed for starting and idling.... JAFFA, I would take that idea a little further ie put a small pin-prick hole in the pot-noodle container lid and replace....that way you will be replicating the float chamber situation...ie the breather hole...Or, if you happen to have a spare carb---use that... If a carb is to be drained for any length of time try re-filling with paraffin, and tape over the breather hole..

Hi Paul--------leave your "donk-donk" out overnight and see the wax content separate out in the diesel fuel line and block those filters... That "milky" petrol sounds like the ethanol content is starting to separate out.. it's called "Phase separation" ---- have a look at this and please READ ALL OF IT }----- http://fuelschool.blogspot.co.uk/2009/0 ... ended.html -----------did you see the reference to "Milky petrol ?? --------and also that part about the pump may say 5 or 10% but in reality it could be more than that ?? Next it will be horse meat instead of petrol ???
