Hi Paul, it's not you! Those plates are very easy to crack when tightening them. I did it to mine first time I took it off to adjust the tappets. It is the device which lifts the pushrod which gets caught and when you tighten the centre nut is distorts the plate and breaks it. One of those things - your plate is probably much better but how did you attach the lifter cable?
Re performance, I've always said on this here forum that a well set up Electra will be quicker than an iron barrel model. My old Sixty-5 was stage 1 tuned and went really well, but my Electra XS with WS Highway kit and our hosts full Goldy system is considerably quicker. Like yours it will reach and hold an indicated 80mph (in the middle/outer lanes of the M'way, overtaking everything) and still have throttle left for a bit more........
If you could get an iron barrel Enfield to do this I don't think that it would like it much. I've had my XS for nearly 7 years from new and no engine problems at all.
Not a perfect bike by any means but I'm with you on the underated Electra thing Paul. I look forward to reading your reports.
Would like a long-stroke crank though.........Norm has words of wisdom on that!

oh dear your right norm i,am supposed to be running it in!!oh well i can,t help having a tickle !i,m with you stu now i,ve overcome my initial rebuild woes its a grower ,on the decomp front like the e/s its been consigned to the bin!but i could make it reappear as and when its not much work to reffit it on my new plate (small welding job)i might need it if i go the full hog i,ve still not mastered photo taking business so it,ll probably be at mad mikes bike day in june? its not the poshist of paint jobs my silver pin lines are a bit lumpy but i,m not big on cosmetics + i always paint then ride before the paints dry(don,t ask!) ,i think the classic tool boxes set it off also is it me or are electra,s lighter than 350,s it seems it although it could be the lighter bars,i must also say that the left hand foot change took no getting used to after a five year break (last japper)the clothes aira back rack is superb i ought to patent the design!!might make it into mr h,s parts book next year HeHe!!atb paul.
