Hi, I want to swap my single sprung seat plus pillion pad for a dual seat. Bike is a 2007 built /8 (registered)Electra X. The pillion seat fixing is a carrier web rather than part of the mudguard on this model. Has anyone out there done this change over - Why will a standard dual saddle / seat from a 500 bullet not fit? - Is it bracketry or things under the seat preventing it sitting properly?
I understand there is a (British made?) seat from Hitchcocks for the Electra X at about £200 all up, but can't ascertain if this is the original style for the bike or if it will look the part - not like it was for something else.
Probably better off with a sprung seat anyway! Your views on this please...

Replacement seat arrived fom Hitchcock's (excellent service by the way!). Job not as strtaightforward as first thought. The single seat, spring hangers and nose frame must be removed complete, as must any lifting handles, which will no longer fit afterwards as they are bolted to the spring hangers. Then, in my case, TCI unit, regulator and breather box all have to be moved around in order to get the TCI unit and various connerctors sitting flat and in between the frame tubes (again, thanks Hitchcock's for further telephone advice). This in turn entails battery and battery box removal. Then put the lot back and the seat will sort of fit, but will fit a lot better if a couple of locally made up rubber blocks are stuck on top of the existing flat metal bump stops sitting on top of the frame. This will provide support for the new saddle at the widest part.

A new lifting handle will be required (Hitchcock's standard item)- this bolts onto the shockabsorber top and then 4 rubber supports will be needed (again, from Hitchcocks - standard item)and which fit into the saddle to allow it to be positioned correctly. The seat rail then needs to be positioned and bolt holes drilled in the seat to line up with existing 4 holes (2 threaded and 2 blind). Bolt the lot together and job done. Taken me two days so far.....but I am fussy.
